The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee is hosting the meeting in light of its investigation into public order and policing across the capital.

The meeting is set to look into how new legislation has made an impact on public order policing and as quoted by the London Assembly ‘Whether the right balance is being struck between preventing excessive disruption and the right to protests.

  • Lord Walney, Government Independent Adviser on Political Violence and Disruption
  • Kirsty Brimelow KC, Barrister, Doughty Street Chambers

Panel 2: 11:35am – 1:00pm

The Metropolitan Police has faced unprecedented numbers of protests every week that has involved thousands of officers who have been removed from their normal set duties or even called back from rest days and holidays to cover the list of never ending protests.

This has cost the Met millions and has put a strain on the force and the officers themselves who are repeatedly called out to police the demonstrations. It is believed the force are below par for officers holding public order tickets as many are not keen to embark on these duties after repeated criticisms faced by the police for doing their job.
