Police Federation launch survey to gain officers’ view on pay, morale and demand.
The Police Federation of England and Wales launched a survey yesterday (16 September) to gain information on officers’ views on their pay, morale, and demands in the job.
The PFEW has stated:
In addition to pay and morale, including allowances, the survey spans other important areas such as mental health, wellbeing, demand, annual leave/rest days and professional development, to provide comprehensive insight into the realities of policing as they currently stand.
The findings from this survey continue to be invaluable in providing critical national and regional evidence to support PFEW’s ongoing national pay campaign in calling for fairer remuneration for police officers and are pivotal for improving working conditions.
This year’s survey also considers the impact of the recent widespread violent public disorder and seeks to understand how such challenges highlight the needs of our members. By sharing their experiences on the frontline, PFEW can press the Government and senior stakeholders for stronger welfare support, enhanced training and better equipment.
Additionally, the survey seeks for the first time to better understand the impact of social media on policing and how it can impact individual members directly.
Social media has played a huge part on policing over the years and most police officers on today’s streets are all to accustomed to being filmed.
We hope that the results of this survey will then be accordingly addressed and not brushed off to one side. Police officers desperately need people to fight their corner when needed and are frequently let down. The challenges they face have increased vastly and their workload and pressures can mean officers are often at breaking point. They have very little support from their own very senior officers, who almost seem apologetic when court cases are rightly won.
The results of this survey we hope will shed some light on the realities officers face each day and how their level of morale really is.
The survey is open for seven weeks and closes on Monday 28 October 2024.
