Romford Rugby Club’s remarkable transformation thanks to dynamic new Chair.
“Rugby is more than just a game – it’s about transforming people’s lives, building connections, and creating opportunities. At Romford & Gidea Park, that’s the heart of everything we do.”
Romford & Gidea Park Rugby Club is undergoing a remarkable transformation, spearheaded by Nicola Worthington, the club’s dynamic and purpose-driven full-time Chair.
Nicola is on a mission to “transform lives through rugby”, and her passion for the sport is evident in every aspect of the club’s revitalisation.
As female participation in rugby hits an all-time high with 2.7 million players globally, Romford & Gidea Park is proud to be part of this growing movement. With women now representing over a quarter of the global playing population and a 28% increase in registered female players since 2017, the club is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for the next generation of rugby talent. The club is also committed to providing rugby opportunities for all, with a goal of having girls’ and boys’ teams at every age group.
Under her leadership of just one year, the development of homegrown talent has flourished. Eight youth players have successfully progressed into the First XV squad, with standout player Jack Marshall earning a prestigious call-up to represent England U18s in South Africa.
Off the pitch, Worthington has redefined the club’s vision and values, placing a renewed emphasis on community engagement. The relaunch of the schools and community programme is strengthening local ties, ensuring rugby’s positive impact reaches far beyond the club’s grounds. In just one year, Nicola’s leadership has also doubled bar takings, boosting the club’s financial stability.
Romford & Gidea Park is thriving. The Men’s 3rd XV has returned after years of inactivity, and for the first time ever, the Ladies’ section will proudly field two senior XVs, marking an important milestone in the club’s growth.
With a clear sense of purpose and a deep commitment to both rugby and the local community, Nicola Worthington is transforming Romford & Gidea Park into a hub of opportunity, connection, and growth.“Rugby is more than just a game – it’s about transforming people’s lives, building connections, and creating opportunities. At Romford & Gidea Park, that’s the heart of everything we do.” – Nicola Worthington .
