Police investigation underway after Harold Hill burglary leaves 80 residents evacuated after gas leak.
Officers from East Area Command are investigating a burglary at betting shop on Petersfield Avenue in Harold Hill in the early hours of the morning.
Residents reported a car driving into the front of the shop window that went on to cause a gas leak where 80 families were evacuated to a nearby church.
Gas engineers are still at the scene.
A spokesperson for the Met Police told the Havering Daily:
“At 04:23am on Thursday, 5 September, police were called to reports of a car having driven into the front of the building causing a gas leak that resulted in the evacuation of around 80 residents.
Those residents have since been able to return to their homes.
Gas engineers are at the scene.
An investigation is underway by detectives from the Met’s East Area Command and enquiries are ongoing.
At this early stage there have been no arrests.
