Police officers- do not judge all members of the public as the same.
Dealing with endless challenges as our police officers do daily, we can fully comprehend that officers have become at times weary and wary when dealing with members of the public.
Most policing situations see our officers work in hostile environments where they faced with endless cameras, being filmed more times than oscar winning actors and are actually envied by actors for the screen time coverage they get.
We see officers dealing with verbal abuse, physical abuse, an increase in officers assaults is recorded every year for just doing their job. None of this is acceptable when these officers are embarking in one of the hardest jobs in our society today.
The work they do across all our communities is vital and life saving and sadly is very often thankless. They really are individuals who want to make a difference in our society and do just that.
This is a polite request to them however, to not judge all members of the public as the same. There are many, many communities who are indeed very supportive of the incredible work officers do and do take the time to appreciate their work. People who are supportive of frontline officers who despite all the abuse, are there to respond to the community’s calls for help.
Please remember when dealing with us all, we like yourselves are all different and when we approach you politely, be polite back. We understand the current environment you face, but once again we are all different. If we are respectful, please note that. It may well be a rarity, but there are those who do thank you for all your hard work.

I broadly agree with the sentiments of this “request” and also note
1/ of police are suffering “encounter fatigue” from dealing with the public, this is a management issue and (just like nurses) they need respected and frequent “down time” to recharge, not be “available” to be called back in for anything but the direst of emergencies. Basically there isn’t enough on rotation.
2/ they do create their own needless and meaningless confrontations too. They like to bully intimidate threaten then breach the publics rights if they are filming with unlawful detention and searches under section 43 terrorism when the know full well this isn’t real it’s just abusing their power. They need to chill out and stop policing by ego..”I said” do now in their minds it’s the law. They waste thousands in payouts in civil claims but clearly the claims should be more until they get the message .
If they are shy retiring shrinking violets thst can’t handle an iPhone a/ they are I. The wrong job b/ don’t you dare ask for footage when there’s an incident and now all of the sudden I’m your best friend.
