Local community show their support to HASWA.
Havering Asian Social and Welfare Association are a charity based in Elm Park that support all members of our community regardless of their Faith, colour, or creed. They are a fantastic charity who open their doors to all, hand out free food to all the community and run amazing events each week at their centre in Elm Park.
Yesterday, Monday 12 August, Margaret Mullane the Dagenham and Rainham MP, visited the centre alongside local Councillor Barry Mugglestone, Romford Councillor David Taylor, and local police officers for a reassurance visit following concerns after the recent riots across the country.
Margaret told the Havering Daily: “I am so impressed by the great work being done by so many community and faith groups in Dagenham and Rainham. working to reduce social disadvantage promoting independence and supporting representation for all.
I see a vital part of my role as MP as doing everything I can to unite communities across the constituency to demonstrate that we have far more in common than what divides us. I say this because I am concerned that there are malign forces at work in society intent on driving wedges and division that can only cause harm. We have seen that play out in parts of the nation, I want to make sure that that does not happen here.”
Margaret went on to say “The overwhelming majority of British people are tolerant and decent and are disgusted by the rioters whose intention is to cause division. I know they will not succeed, but we cannot be complacent, that’s why I am working with all communities in Dagenham and Rainham who are committed to a positive future for all local people.”
Councillor Mugglestone is a regular visitor at HASWA and frequently participates at events at the centre.
Councillor Taylor was also pleased to meet Manjit who is an amazing community champion and happy to work alongside her with future projects here in Havering.
Local Safer Neighbourhood Sergeant Atkins was happy to offer his support to members at the centre and will be returning to chat further with any members who may feel unsafe in our community and also join in regular events HASWA offers.
