A performer from Havering is making her professional debut in Shrek the Musical at London’s Eventim Apollo, which runs until 31 August 2024.

Davina Manuel-Mokwenye secured her first job just prior to graduating from Leeds Conservatoire, a specialist higher education institution.

“Honestly when I got the call to let me know that I got the job it almost didn’t feel real, I felt like I was being pranked almost; even though I had a feeling that I got the job it was still a shock to actually get the offer,” said Davina.

“Then when I found out that I would be Mama Bear and first cover Dragon initially I was ecstatic, then imposter syndrome set in heavily as it was a big first job to have as a soon-to-be graduate but ultimately I had to trust my training and myself that I was up for the job and that I belonged in that company and so far it has not been the easiest ride but I am so glad to be part of such an amazing show.”

The 21-year-old, who studied Musical Theatre, credits her training for helping her to perform to the best of her ability, ace the audition and now help bring the story of Shrek to life.

The musical’s cast also includes a host of well-known names such as Todrick Hall (Donkey), Antony Lawrence (Shrek), Joanne Clifton (Princess Fiona), James Gillan (Lord Farquaad), and Cherece Richards (Dragon).

“In such an unpredictable career we can only plan so much; only time will tell,” Davina added about her aspirations.
