Gooshays Green officially named as a Village Green.
Gooshays Green, Harold Hill, has been officially named as a Village Green in Havering, marking another milestone in the preservation of local much-loved green spaces.
Council Leader, Councillor Ray Morgon, Councillor Graham Williamson, and Gooshays Ward Councillor Paul McGeary, along with a large number of residents from the surrounding community attended the formal dedication ceremony, held on Sunday 11 August.
Village Green status ensures that Gooshays Green, along with Fleet Close, Wennington Green, and Hitchin Green, will remain undeveloped in perpetuity, safeguarding the area for the enjoyment of future generations.
Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, said:
“This village green status for Gooshays Green is a testament to the commitment by the Council to the community and our promise to protect Havering’s much-loved green spaces.
“I am so pleased to celebrate another village green milestone with the local community.”
Angela King, a local resident for over thirty years, said:
“I’m so pleased we got village green status.
“We’ve been fighting for this for a long time and didn’t think it would happen.
“I keep the green tidy, picking up rubbish every week, and we have the opportunity to have more events now that we know that it’s protected for everyone.”
The formal dedication ceremony formed part of the wider community celebration and included performances from the children at Starshine Stage School.
