Havering police host fantastic sporting events for the youth.
After the success of United in Basketball and Football back in May this year and part of the Clear Hold Build initiative, further summer events have been organised and funded by HAF and Organised by PC Russ Harley and Chief Inspector Routley from the Met Police.
The first football and basketball event took place at Cottons Park on Thursday 1st August and saw over 20 children take part in both sessions. The feedback from staff and parents was that the sessions went very well and were well thought out. The coaches where excellent.
The event second last week as part of ‘Our Harold Hill’ (Clear Hold Build) at Central Park saw 60 children attend where they engaged with coaches supplied from First touch Sport and Bad Thunder. Sessions saw local neighbourhood policing teams and coaches putting on sessions for the local community’s to improve community relations and provide children with the opportunity to take part in sports during the holidays at no cost.
PC Harley told the Havering Daily:
“This is a brilliant start to this community project which we have expanded from last summer adding football to this event which was put forward by our community. We have listened and delivered this for the summer providing numerous sessions throughout the holidays with the support of HAF and Havering Council. We have been able to expand this project across Havering in the aim to bring communities and police together by the means of sport”
One local parent whose child attended the event said:
“I wanted to give some feedback on the football United at Central Park, Harold Hill today that both my daughters attended they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. It was well organised and well thought out.
“Every child was supported and cheered on all members of the MET who were extremely helpful and polite”.
“They made you feel comfortable and welcome for both adults and the children”.
United in Basketball and Football will continue to run across Havering throughout the summer.
