Havering Council has successfully retained its 16 Green Flags in parks for the fourth year in a row.

A Green Flag Award means the parks boast the highest possible standards, are well maintained and have excellent facilities. The recognition is awarded by environmental charity, Keep Britain Tidy.

This latest achievement of Green Flags is a reward for the efforts of parks and ground maintenance staff plus the community groups the Council work in partnership with, who help maintain the parks to a high standard all year round.

Our parks continue to be places for people to help boost well-being and mental health and enjoy the outdoors safely.

Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, said:

“To retain all our 16 Green Flags in our wonderful parks for a fourth year in a row is a proud moment for us.

“The Green Flag award is recognition of all the hard work our staff carry out on a daily basis, along with our volunteers and friends of parks groups to help keep our parks maintained and safe for everyone to visit.

“It is due to their efforts that we are once again celebrating this success and I am delighted their dedication has once again been rewarded.”

Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved at Havering on achieving a Green Flag Award.

“Havering’s parks are vital green spaces for communities to socialise, enjoy nature, for children to play safely and they provide important opportunities for park users to improve their physical and mental health.

“We know that staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award, everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.

“It is important that our free to use spaces are maintained to the Green Flag Award standard, making them accessible for all members of the community while ensuring the environment is protected.”
