VIDEO:New Rainham MP honours her pledge to work towards ending the Launders Lane fires.
‘My first pledge is working to end the fires at Launders Lane, which have plagued the community for many years and have threatened the health of people across Rainham‘-Margaret Mullane MP
Margaret Mullane is making plans for her maiden speech in the House of Commons following her election as Labour’s new MP for Dagenham and Rainham. Due to the sheer number of new MPs in this Parliament it is anticipated that maiden speeches will take place over the coming months.
Margaret told the Havering Daily: “In my election campaign I made a number of pledges to voters and I intend to honour these.
Two of those pledges were very special local ones. The first was working to stop the fires on Arnolds Field, Launders Lane, which have plagued the community for many years and have threatened the health of people across Rainham.
The second was to honour the promise given to the thousands of families who bought homes on the Beam Park development that there would be a station.
So in my maiden speech to the House of Commons I will be making clear my commitments on these vital local issues. On Launders Lane I will be calling for an inquiry into the pollution problems that have resulted here, and in the many other unregulated landfill sites across the nation. I will also be working with stakeholders towards proposals for the safe remediation of the land.
For Beam Park station I will be making the case that removing the ridiculous block imposed by the last government which prevented the station from going ahead, will unlock the regeneration of the area along the A1306 to Dovers Corner, creating many local jobs.
When I have the honour of delivering my maiden speech, in addition to these issues, I will be focusing on crime, housing, the devastated condition that our NHS has been left in and the cost-of-living which has crippled working families for years and must be urgently addressed.”
