Summer of celebrations planned for Village Green dedication.
The formal adoption of five much-loved green spaces as Village Greens will see local communities celebrating across Havering throughout the summer.
The new Village Greens will have a plaque dedication, which local residents have helped to create, and celebrations organised by the local communities.
The Village Green dedications and celebrations planned include:
- Saturday 13 July, 10am, at Fleet Close Play Site, Upminster
- Saturday 20 July, 11am, at Wennington Green, Wennington Village, Rainham
- Sunday 28 July, 10am, Land west of Taunton Road, Harold Hill
- Sunday 11 August, 1pm, The land at Gooshays, Harold Hill
- Wednesday 14 August, 12pm, Dover’s Corner, Land at New Zealand Way, Rainham.
The green spaces will remain undeveloped ‘in perpetuity’, which means they will be protected from development for all future generations to enjoy.
Councillor Graham Williamson, Cabinet Member for Development and Regeneration, said:
“These much-loved green spaces are very important to us and will soon be formally dedicated as Village Greens. The community and wellbeing benefits cannot be underestimated.
“We promised in our manifesto to create these Village Greens and protect them from development, and I very much look forward to celebrating this milestone over the summer as we deliver on that promise for our residents.”
