Special group formed to support men’s mental health in Havering.
It really is time men are supported and their voices are heard.
Yesterday, Monday 1 July- men from many different organisations came together at Hornchurch fire station to discuss mental health and how they can work together to support more men suffering across Havering and other areas.
The event was led by London Fire Brigade Havering Borough Commander Paul Mc Clenaghan and saw members of Mind, PTSD 999, The Proper Blokes Club, JFF Security and Solutions, our LGBTQ+ community, two local councillors , alongside Chris and Jimmy Lambrianou Micky Collins and Rachel Grimwood.
The session gave people the opportunity to talk about the work they are doing across the borough and also share their own experiences and struggles with the group.
Our fire chief Paul spoke about his struggles and how his experiences were now helping him to support his firefighters. Andre from Havering Mind who runs the dad’s parenting group, and is a trained councillor spoke about the many challenges men face in our community. Scott from JFF Security and Solutions shared his personal struggles and how he supports his team. Gary from PTSD 999 shared his own struggles and the endless work he does supporting our emergency service workers who desperately need help. Mark representing our LGBTQ community spoke about the battles he has faced and those so many of our LGBTQ members face daily. Scott and Dan who run the Proper Blokes Club shared their personal struggles and how the walking group has developed across Havering and so many other London boroughs. Chris and Jimmy Lambrianou and Micky Collins came from Oxford to support the meeting. Chris spoke about his fifteen years in prison and the impact they have had on his life and most importantly the person he has become since leaving the gangster world behind. He has worked tirelessly at a drug rehabilitation centre helping so many change their life.
The meeting is one of many that can now build and grow and hopefully encourage more men to come forward. Our communities are losing too many men. It really is time men are supported and their voices are heard.
Monthly meetings will now take place as a result-so if you would like to join or know someone who would like to come along and join this amazing team of men, please email us at newsdesk@thehaveringdaily.co.uk.
