A fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday morning at Elm Park Baptist Church.

A small part of the roof of a single storey building was destroyed. The church is a very popular place for the Elm Park community and church services despite, the fire-will continue as normal.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade told the Havering Daily:

“The Brigade was called to a fire at a church on Ambleside Avenue in Hornchurch in the early hours of this morning. A small part of a flat roof in the single storey building was destroyed by fire as well as some external fascia. The Brigade was called at 02:07am and the incident was over by 03:16am.

Fire crews from Hornchurch and Dagenham fire stations were in attendance.”

Elm Park Councillors Barry Mugglestone and Stephanie Nunn told the Havering Daily:

“We are very sorry to hear of the fire at Elm Park Baptist Church.

The church is very supportive of Elm Park and its local community, allowing meetings to be held there. Only recently we held a shopkeepers meeting with ourselves and the police regarding shoplifting in the area.

“They also host regular coffee meetings which raise money for many charities.”
