Acorn-an incredible group who support SEND adults when no else does.
In August last year, the college facility that provided daily support for our adult SEND members closed due to council lack of funding. SEND members struggled as they had no place to go and lost their daily interaction with friends, and undertaking activities each day.
Now, thanks to an amazing team in Upminster, SEND adults have a special group to attend twice a week that allows them to meet up with friends and learn new and fun tasks each day.
The Havering Daily was invited to a special afternoon tea at St Laurence Church hall where all the sandwiches and cakes were made by group members.

We spoke with staff and parents about the introduction of the new group Acorns, that gives adults with SEND an outlet twice a week to meet and embark in fun activities such as cooking, craft work, fitness, yoga and even litter picking!

Acorns is held at the minor hall St Laurence Church, in Upminster every Wednesday and Thursday every week and costs £75 a session. Sarah and her team do a truly fantastic job. Groups members yesterday had big smiles on their faces and were proudly handing out the yummy sandwiches and cakes they had made.
Everyone in our community should be supported and not left behind because of a disability.
