There has been a 25% reduction of knife crime with injury crime across the Dagenham area.

Residents living in Dagenham are currently seeing an increase in police presence following the shooting of a man in his 20s on Porters Avenue and the stabbing of a male also in his 20s in Chadwell Heath.

Neighbourhoods Superintendent David Rhodes spoke to the Havering Daily following the two isolated incidents that are unrelated to each other.

“The community will see an increase in police presence across the area. They are there to provide reassurance to the public so please come and speak to our local officers and share any concerns you may have with them.

“We are listening to our community and are tackling local hot spots such as Barking Town Centre and Dagenham Heathway.”

We have seen the introduction of a new Dagenham Heathway Policing Team that has been an incredible success in the area. The team of officers are not only pro active, but also highly visible across the Heathway working closely with local retail workers. The team have made many arrests and are in continuous communication with the shop workers in the area to tackle theft and anti social behaviour that had once blighted the Heathway.

“I have been told by locals that there has been a vast improvement in the area since the arrival of our new dedicated Dagenham Heathway Team. They have been working closely with residents, schools and retail workers to tackle the numerous problems there were in the area,” continued Supt Rhodes.

“There has been a 25% reduction in knife crime with injury, meaning we are seeing less people losing their life on our streets. We have worked hard with our local schools and in close partnership with Barking and Dagenham Council to tackle this.”

Knife crime cannot be solved by our police officers alone, it needs to be a community wide solution and for all of us to play a role in stopping our youths going out with knives.

“Please come out and share any concerns you may have with our officers. We are out there and we are listening,” finished Supt Rhodes.
