Harold Hill Labour Councillor joins HRA-‘I want to work in the best interests of Harold Hill and the Borough as a whole.”
Gooshayes ward Councillor Paul McGeary has announced he has joined the Havering Residents Association (HRA), departing from his previous affiliation with the local Labour Party.
Councillor Gillian Ford, Chair of the HRA, warmly welcomed Cllr. McGeary into the group, stating:”The Havering Residents Association would like to welcome Councillor Paul McGeary into the group. Formerly part of the Labour group, Cllr McGeary is someone just like the HRA who only work in the best interests of local residents rather than following the interests of national political parties or ideologies. The Council is facing challenging times and we need to make some tough decisions. We do not stand in National Elections; our members therefore represent all political persuasions in one group. Councillor McGeary will give us the stability we need to be able to work with you and for you in local residents’ best interest. He will continue as he has done since 2010 to serve the interests of both Gooshays Ward and Havering Borough as a whole.”

Councillor McGeary expressed his reasons for the move, he told the Havering Daily: “The time had come for me to step away from a party constrained by central party politics that do not necessarily always represent my views. I have seen the way the H.R.A operate and their dedication at the local level to do the best they can in the interests of residents, without central and local office control. I want to work in the best interests of Harold Hill and the Borough as a whole.”

So Paul is leaving the Labour Party to join the HRA and Labour coalition administration – and remain a Cabinet member?
“I want to work in the best interests of Harold Hill and the Borough as a whole.”
Naturally this implies that you haven’t been doing this for 14 years. Actually, after due reflection, I think that you have had a major insight into your lack of commitment.
Not abstaining in a vote of no confidence while still a Labour cllr
And allowing a minority HRA administration would have had the same effect
Remember the outrage when councillors den burton joined the Tories the day after the 2018 council election saying he should’ve called a by election put himself up for re selection
