Special ANZAC Day commemoration in Rainham.

ANZAC Day is remembered every year at a ceremony on Dovers Green Rainham. Dovers Green is at the heart of the New Zealand Estate which was built in the 1950s and named in memory of those soldiers from Australia and New Zealand who were based in Rainham and Hornchurch during both World Wars. Soldiers whose bravery and sacrifice is remembered and honoured .

Margaret Mullane Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham told the Havering Daily: “Thursday 25 April was ANZAC Day, but the gathering to commemorate the day was held on Sunday on the now protected, Dovers Farm Village Green.”

Margaret addressing the gathering sai: “The first ever ANZAC Day was held on 25 April 1916 to commemorate the troops that made the ultimate sacrifice in Gallipoli on the same date in 1915, during a crucial expedition which lasted eight months and cost many thousands of allied lives.

It is an honour to be asked to speak at this event again, as I have fond memories of working alongside Jon Cruddas MP, local residents, and councillors to establish a permanent memorial plaque back in 2017.

The fact that we are here today is a testament to the community who with grit and determination fought to protect this green for future generations, and as a lasting act of remembrance for those who gave their tomorrow for our today.

We Will Remember Them.”
