The Hornchurch community were upset to learn that their much loved lollipop man Alf was being made redundant.

Alf, who works outside Harrow Lodge Primary School, was so sad to learn of his redundancy that he even offered to work for free as he truly loves his job.

At the grand age of 89 years old, Alf has been doing his job for so many years that he has seen many of the children grow from babies to adults and have their own children.

He really is a local legend and his redundancy news has left him and his community that he has served so well, upset.

The community have now come together and set up a gofundme for Alf stating: “Alf is not like any other 89 year old I have ever met and has zest for life. Let us show him just how much he means to each and everyone one of us!”.

People like Alf truly are legends in our local community and it is very sad to see him lose his job after so many years of dedication to his community.

This has left his local community not only upset, but extremely angry.

Alf is attending the local Easter Bonnet Parade at Harrow Lodge Primary School today to receive his cards and gifts.
