Romford Randoms fantastic success‘I look forward to walking football each week as I have met a great bunch of people and have fun whilst getting some exercise.’

Last year, local lady Michelle who loves football, decided it was time Havering had its own ladies over 40s walking football team. The aim was to bring ladies together and enjoy football without the risk of serious injury.

Michelle told the Havering Daily:

“For the love of football but did not want to get hurt, I decided to approach power league Romford to see if I could start a ladies over 40’s walking football team. I started in April last year and we got a good response from most ladies who wanted it in the evening and we got a pitch on Mondays at 7-8.30 pm. Week by week more and more ladies came.

I then approached the manager of the Romford men’s walking football team at power league as we both wanted us to join their club, it took a lot of hard work between us to push to show that us ladies were serious about joining a club.”

As the club began to grow, a committee was then set up.

Michelle continued:

“We started a committee which we delegate us to do different roles.
In the meantime we needed a Sponsorship, we asked most businesses in the community,
Arnie from Amber cars Harold wood 01708 347 777 said yes and stepped into help.

Now we have come so far and are all very excited. We advertise all the time for more ladies and With the help of local clubs that play football which have sent us bibs, footballs etc which has been amazing. Our kit is on its way and although we’re part of Romford walking football club, us ladies are called Romford Randoms.

We are building up to join the Essex Women Walking football League next year.
Our Ages range from 40-67 we have fun, laughter, good friendships with a bit of fitness, We welcome all ladies that would like to join in the fun!”
