“We must come together now and start to tackle knife crime now before Havering becomes another London borough riddled with knife crime. The Mayor of London has done nothing to tackle this. It has got worse and worse and nobody is addressing this urgent problem, our children are dying on the streets of London and just who cares?” These were the strong words of Peggy Kato whose son Champion Ganda died on the streets of Newham in 2013. Now, Peggy has united with Sue Hedges from the Ricky Hayden Memorial in desperate bid to stop Havering becoming another London borough that has a high level of stabbings.
“I moved to Havering to keep my family safe. I thought this would be a good place to raise my family and look at it now. The rate of stabbings has increased. Everyday we are hearing about another stabbing in our borough. We must unite now as a community and stand together against knife crime. Please, all the professionals in our borough, parents, youths, let us stand together now before it is too late and we become like the inner London boroughs.”
Sue told the Havering Daily:”We have been campaigning and fighting to stop knife crime for so many years and nobody wants to know. Here we are now, with record high levels of deaths on our street, our children being killed and not even safe to travel to school without dying. We have met the Mayor of London many times including last year and he said he would put things in place, but he hasn’t, nothing was done.
“We are urging all of you to please join this campaign and start hash tagging #IcareaboutHavering and stand up for this borough, let us do what we can as a community and stand against knife crime.”
“Please,” finished Peggy. “Don’t let knife crime come knocking on your door, because if it does, it will be too late. Sue and myself know what it is like to bury our child, we live with that life sentence everyday. Stand up now and fight for your children’s future.”
