“I left the store yesterday, and my nose was running, my hands were frozen and the poor staff were wearing wooly hats and coats behind the tills.” Frank does his weekly shopping at the Tesco Roneo Corner store and was appalled at just how cold it was not just for customers using the store, but for the poor staff who work there everyday.

“Roneo Corner, have the best staff possible. I have been shopping there for years with my wife and one of the main reasons we return, is due to the friendliness and welcoming staff. We know them by name, they ask how we are, they go out of their way to help. They really are the best staff you could find and they are the ones who make that store what it is. You would think that they would appreciate the fantastic job these staff members are doing and get this problem resolved. It has been eight weeks now and still nothing. It actually feels colder inside the store than outside!”.

Staff are wearing hats and layers of clothing due to the cold temperatures inside the store.

“By the time I left yesterday, my nose was dripping and my hands were struggling to move due to the cold. The ladies near the tills were freezing, it’s not right. They work so very hard as it easy and really do such an outstanding job, that they do not deserve to go to work and be so cold.”

Fed up with the conditions, shoppers have started speaking to the store manager to find out when the heating will return.

Shopper, Sheila told the Havering Daily.

“I spoke with the store manager two weeks ago and informed him that the store was ridiculously cold and that his staff were really suffering. He assured me that he was on his phone to engineers to get this resolved. However, it is eight weeks now and still nothing. We were told that there is heating in the offices, just not the shop floor where most of the staff work.”

A spokesperson for Tesco told the Havering Daily:

“Our Romford Extra is open and serving customers as normal however, it is a little colder than normal due to an issue with our boilers. We’re sorry for the inconvenience and we are working with our enigneers to fix the heating as quickly as possible.”
