‘We must stop the stabbings’
Knife crime makes everyone feel unsafe and erodes our sense of community.
Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham Sam Holland today writes in the Havering Daily on the recent stabbings that have taken place in the borough.
The recent spate of stabbings across Havering and Barking and Dagenham is the number one issue blighting our community. The numbers of lives being upended by the appalling use of knives are becoming too numerous to mention. We’ve seen stabbings in Dagenham, and in Romford and Harold Hill just this week. My sympathies go to the victims and their families.
Knife crime makes everyone feel unsafe and erodes our sense of community.
In Rainham, we’ve recently seen members of the local community aghast as hooded youths have threatened local school children.
It is now essential that the soft ball approach to tackling knife crime is ended. Among the many ways in which this can be done is by Stop and Search. The Met Police have recently been asking for people’s views on a new Stop and SearchCharter via a survey.
The survey asks questions on what you think about stop and search practises to help inform a new charter between local communities and the Met Police.
The Met Police say…” When done right, stop and search is an effective tool and officers take 4,000 dangerous weapons off our streets every year because of this tactic – saving lives.”

Please provide your feedback on stop and search. It’s vital a no-nonsense approach is adopted in ending the scourge of knife crime across Greater London.
