‘These dreadful attacks are shocking, we need urgent and concerted action to deter people from carrying knives.’

Margaret Mullane, Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham, has responded to the recent stabbings and other violent attacks in the local area. She writes in the Havering Daily:

“These dreadful attacks are shocking, we need urgent and concerted action to deter people from carrying knives.

I have been consistently calling for increased Police presence on our streets and particularly around shopping areas and transport hubs. I am really pleased that the Police have responded positively in Dagenham Heathway and I want to see that approach rolled out.

I must emphasise the point that this isn’t just a policing issue, this needs a coordinated approach that involves Council Youth Workers, mental health services and the Ben Kinsella Trust whose work is dedicated to educating young people away from violence alongside the Police.

It’s vital for our community that people feel safe going about their daily lives, I will be working for that concerted action to ensure that public safety”.
