Leave Romford as it is? That’s not what the residents want.
Today the Havering Residents Association write in the Havering Daily.
The Conservatives and East Havering Residents Association have made it clear they are happy for Romford to stay as it is.
After many years of delay and gathering dust under the former Conservative Administration, the H.R.A are beginning to bring the Romford masterplan to life which will ensure Romford retains its historic Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday market, improves safety and brings economic development to the borough. However, the Conservatives and East Havering want the safety measures proposed for the ring road and the Romford masterplan to be scrapped leaving Romford to decline.
But Councillor Graham Williamson argues “That leaving things as they are will not lead to improvement. We have seen the decline of our main town, with calls from residents for its improvement. Romford has the highest crime rate and only this week we have had a stabbing in the town. Things have got to change as we cannot leave our historic town to decline.“
A Conservative Councillor for St Edwards Ward claimed “I believe we can turn Romford around and make this a great place to live”. But Councillor Williamson argues by leaving things as they are, will not lead to change.
By stopping the Romford masterplan and ring road development the Conservatives and East Havering Residents Association want to keep the Sunday market that has been losing £125k of tax payers money a year, and reverse the outcome of the SEND Consultation, which gives parents a say as to how they use school transport for themselves.
Deputy Leader of the Council, Councillor Gillian Ford said, “The opposition’s budget proposals are not going to change the huge financial challenges the borough faces, they are just a one year tinkering with pet projects, that fail to address the safety, regeneration and the long-term economic revival to bring businesses and income into the borough.”
