Angry Priory Road residents take to the streets as building works begin on green land home to many forms of wildlife.

Residents living on Priory Road in Harold Hill woke up last Friday to the noise of diggers and other heavy machinery as construction work began on the building of five properties on land that homes many trees, wildlife and deer who openly roam the area.

The small and tranquil road has beautiful green spaces, the reason why people chose to buy their property there. It is home to many deer, badgers and newts, as well as endless birds who live in the many trees.

Last week, without any notification from Havering Council or local councillors, residents awoke to the noise of diggers and saw their road blighted by heavy machinery and paths already ruined as the machinery enters in and out of the area.

Five homes are due to be built at the end of Priory Road, on the green space. Planning permission was granted on the 15 February 2021 despite heavy objection from local residents in the area. No work had began for years, so locals were under the hopeful belief that no further action was going to be taken. However, before the three year life planning permission expired on the 15 February this year, work has now commenced.

Residents came out yesterday to show their anger at Havering Councillors for allowing this build to go ahead. The area is full of wildlife and the deer now face pollution, noise and disruption, alongside the residents who live on this quiet Harold Hill road.

Residents gathered to to make their voices heard shouting-“Shame on you” to Havering Councillors.
