Romford Town Centre police officers rush into burning building to save mother and her children.
Officers brave actions save mother and her three children from Romford blaze.
Last year four officers from Romford Town Centre were conducting mobile patrols on London Road towards Romford Town Centre when they noticed a large fire on the driveway of a residential property. The fire had started on the driveway, but was growing rapidly and moving towards the front door of the bungalow, initially a sofa below the front bedroom window was alight.
Two officers headed to the front door of the property putting themselves between the fire and the front door of the property, at this stage the fire had spread to the front bedroom window and was quickly moving towards the front door. We now know that the baby’s cot was directly under the front bedroom window that was alight.
The officers rushed into the property and hurried the occupants out of the address to safety away from the fire. Within the address was an adult female and her three children. Two other officers were urgently evacuating neighbouring properties also.
Whilst officers were in the process of evacuating directly neighbouring properties they heard a large smashing sound, this was the windows of the house blowing out.
One of the officers was treated for smoke inhalation at Queens Hospital but was later discharged.
A police investigation was launched and a male was arrested shortly after.
Romford Town Centre Team officers, PC LINEHAM, PC ZOLTAN, PC GANNON and PC VIALLS were commended for professionalism, teamwork, effective communication, bravery and emotional resilience in order to preserve life.
Well done to these officers, whose actions have saved lives. Community heroes.
