‘I strongly disagree with the introduction of parking charges across Havering Parks and the impact it will have on residents’-Andrew Rosindell MP.

A consultation on the possible introduction of parking charges across Havering Parks has left residents angry. Havering has some truly beautiful parks that are widely used by all members of the community. The possible introduction of parking charges has upset so many across the borough who use these parks daily.

Pam, who is a volunteer at the stunning Walled Garden at Bedfords Park in Havering-atte-Bower, told the Havering Daily: “This will have a huge impact on residents. There are many mums who visit parks daily so their children can use the play area. There are members of our elderly community who bring their dogs for walks twice a day. Some who might be lonely and come to the park to meet up with others and actually get to talk to people.

“Introducing parking charges will have such a big impact on all these people and we will see people stop using our parks.”

Last year The Havering Daily visited the Walled Garden in Bedfords Park that is run solely by volunteers. This is a breathtakingly beautiful garden in one of the most remote parts of outer London that is on the Essex borders and nearer to Essex than London. The garden is run by a team of very dedicated volunteers who work very hard to keep the garden in that incredible condition. The fruits and vegetables produced from the garden are given to our community from the small shop there, so everyone benefits from this garden.

They were already impacted last year by the Mayor of London’s ULEZ expansion that has seen volunteers have to pay £12.50 a day to get to the park and now if the council enforce parking charges, these volunteers are faced with parking charges on top of ULEZ charges.

The Member of Parliament for Romford Andrew Rosindell and regular Bedfords Park visitor, told the Havering Daily: “I strongly disagree with the introduction of parking charges across Havering Parks. We are very privileged and proud of our beautiful parks in Havering and to pay to use the car parks would impact local residents who are already struggling with the Mayor of London’s ULEZ charges. At my local park Befords, our volunteers at the Walled Garden do an outstanding job in our community and have already been hit with having to pay £12.50 a day. Many are disabled and can not use public transport, so driving is their only option.

“This would impact them massively, which would then impact our community as the volunteers provide many fruit and vegetables for Havering residents. I do not support this decision and hope residents have their say on the consultation.”
