Romford MP hails closure of local hotel as accommodation for asylum seekers as ‘extremely good news’.
Mr Rosindell has argued that it was inappropriate to use a hotel in the town center for this purpose and that it caused disruption and concern among local residents.
The Romford MP Andrew Rosindell has hailed the closure of the Ibis Styles Hotel as accommodation for asylum seekers as “extremely good news” for the town. The Home Office confirmed yesterday that the hotel will cease to be used for this purpose by the end of February 2024.
“This news is very reassuring for the people of Romford,” Mr. Rosindell said. “The Ibis Styles Hotel was intended to be a quality hotel in the centre of Romford, open to visitors and local people. It should never have been used for the purpose of accommodating asylum seekers in the first place.”
Mr. Rosindell has been a vocal critic of the Ibis Styles Hotel’s use for asylum seeker accommodation since the decision was announced in 2022. He has argued that it was inappropriate to use a hotel in the town center for this purpose and that it caused disruption and concern among local residents.
“I am glad the government have finally listened to the concerns of local people and myself and have decided to close down this facility,” Mr. Rosindell continued. “Illegal immigration must be halted. Britain’s security is at stake and is risking the safety of our people.”
Mr. Rosindell acknowledged the government’s recent efforts to tackle illegal immigration, including agreements with Albania and France, increased enforcement against illegal labor, and the passage of the Illegal Migration Act. He welcomed the decline in arrivals but stressed that there is still much more to be done.
“Romford voted overwhelmingly in favour of leaving the European Union in order for us to take back control of our own affairs. It is therefore paramount that this promise is upheld by securing the borders of our island home. To do this, we also need to untie our laws from the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) to ensure that British law is paramount and cannot be overruled by any by politically driven judges in Strasbourg. We must be able to make our own decisions in the interests of our own national interests. The Conservatives must stand up for this and be the party that upholds the security of the United Kingdom.”
Mr. Rosindell concluded by expressing his hope that the Ibis Styles Hotel will soon be reopened for public use. “I look forward to visiting the Ibis Styles Hotel as soon as it is opened for public use and for the people of Romford.,” he said.

This MP hasn’t voted, spoken or attended Parliament for getting on for two years. I expect he is still drawing his salary and expenses.
Why is he allowed to get away with this, surely the people of Romford should be represented in Parliament.
