VIDEO:’This area is getting worse’-Locals anger at repeated fly tipping in Collier Row by the river Rom.
Discarded syringes left where children play football.
“This is the third time the area has been hit by fly tippers. Perhaps the council should consider putting a camera there now as this is starting to impact our environment,” Roshini tells the Havering Daily.
Roshini Hyde is a Mawney ward resident who is very proud of her area and works hard locally to keep the area as nice as possible. However she is now struggling.”This area is getting worse since last summer. This is the third lot of fly tipping I have noticed.
“The first lot didn’t get cleared away by the council, it ended up getting washed away several weeks later when we had a storm. The council rejected picking it up saying they have no money. They had to pick the needles up as the area is where children play football. It was thanks to Councillors Dilip Patel and Jason Frost who intervened and helped us report it to the council.
“We also have a major problem with bins. The council decided to cover the bin with black sacks and now all the litter is flying everywhere in the playing field. Not sure whose decision this was to cover the bins, but it clearly is a very bad decision.”
Roshini is also fed up with the litter left behind by the football players and their parents each week.
“The council rents the field to a football team who don’t teach the children any manners or to respect the area. Both children and their parents leave rubbish across the field each week. We would like the council to fine them, that would hopefully stop them from leaving a mess each week.
“It is time that we all stand together and help this council stand on its feet as clearly it is struggling. They are not removing fly tipping that is now impacting our local environment-surely it is time that the whole community comes together and joins in to stop this?”
Councillor Dilip Patel told the Havering Daily:”The Mawney ward team was alerted by the residents over the weekend. We have informed the Parks Team and the Enforcement Team to clear the fly tipping as soon as possible.
“As this is a regular occurence, we have asked officers if they could look at some kind of system where the person responsible for the fly tipping can be fined.”
Both Councillors Patel and Frost are regularly monitoring the area and work closely with residents to resolve this situation as quickly as possible.
