‘At the eleventh hour Sadiq Khan found £30m to pay off the RMT but at what cost?’-Keith Prince AM.
Havering and Redbridge Assembly Member Keith Prince who is also City Hall Conservatives Transport spokesperson, commented of the London Mayor’s eleventh hour deal with the RMT to stave off this week’s tube strikes.
“Sadiq Khan has been missing in action during this crisis. By refusing to use the Strikes (Minimum Service Level) Act 2023 to ensure 40% of Tubes run during industrial action, he enabled trade unions to effectively hold Londoners to ransom.
“With the Mayoral election just four months away, he finally woke up to the devastating impact these strikes would have on Londoners and his re-election campaign.
“At the eleventh hour, Sadiq Khan found an additional £30m to pay off the RMT but at what cost. This is a band aid solution designed to save Sadiq Khan’s skin that will come back to bite Londoners. It will embolden other unions to play hardball and demand higher pay.
“Sadiq Khan has shown himself to be the Mayor for Trade Unions, not London or Business. It’s his union paymasters who are calling the shots not him. Londoners deserve better than this.”
