Conservative PPC welcomes more police to Dagenham.
Sam Holland the Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham today writes on the increase in police officers locally.
The new team recently announced by the Met Police will focus specifically on issues and incidents at the Heathway, freeing up the Safer Neighbourhood Teams to focus on other areas.
This is all thanks to the Government’s recent uplift in Police numbers. Regrettably however, the Met Police is the only force in the entire country which has failed to meet its recruitment target, with it projected to be 2,000 officers short of its target of 36,500 by March 2024.
Speaking of the recruitment gap, Sam Holland said, “I welcome the announcement of the new dedicated team for the Heathway which has seen escalating crime and violence recently. Speaking to officers in Dagenham recently, I know more officers is what they want and need.
I am however really concerned that Sadiq Khan, who is responsible for Policing across Greater London, has failed to hit the recruitment target for which he’s received full Government funding. Alarmingly, he has given money back to the government only for it to be spent on other forces elsewhere.
Whilst we continue to have a failed Labour Mayor in office who has done so much damage to our city, local area and to the Met Police force itself, I’m afraid that I have little faith overall crime in Dagenham and Rainham will start to come down.
We need a whole new approach and a fresh start – I am working with both Susan Hall AM and Councillor Keith Prince AM to get the full complement of officers we are owed”.

Well, if you ever need to pad out the crime figures to make a political point, I’m sure Ms Hall could invent another pickpocket offence on the Tube.
