MP and Prospective Parliamentary Candidate make a tough stand against the Rainham quarry planning application and add their commitment to fighting against it.

Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham has stated his strong opposition to the recent pre planning application to excavate a sand and gravel quarry at Rainham Lodge Farm, Berwick Road.

Jon told the Havering Daily: “Back in 2017 and 2019 I fought to stop the Tories in Havering concreting over Rainham and continued to argue with the Tory controlled Council at that time to protect public health by tackling air pollution. I recall we lost the fight to stop the quarry in Wennington off East Hall Lane.

What is not needed is another quarry in an area where residents have lived in misery. This new proposal will result in well over 100 lorry movement each day, causing more nuisance, disturbance and pollution.

We are already engaged positively with Havering Council in tackling the ongoing fires at Arnolds Field, Launders Lane and the local area faces the additional air borne pollution that will come from the second waste incinerator at Belvedere just across the Thames.”

Jon went on to give a commitment: “When this planning application comes before the Council I will be making my formal objections.”

Margaret Mullane, Labour PPC for Dagenham and Rainham told the Havering Daily: “ I have stood with Jon on these fights to protect the health of Rainham residents. They really have had enough over these years when the area was basically the forgotten part of Havering.

I will be standing with residents in opposing this application and confirm that I will be making my objections to the Council when the application comes for consideration by Havering’s Planning Committee.”
