A ‘Day of Action’ was completed on Thursday 14 December, across Havering that combined
officers from Street Duties who are within their first 5 weeks at the East Area BCU, along
with their counterparts on the Training Detectives pathway.
The Street Duties have had a great start i covering Havering, Redbridge,
Barking and Dagenham. Since the start of this month Street Duties Officers have been
completing additional patrols within the area and this had already resulted in 3 arrests for
weapons, shoplifting and drugs and 9 stop searches prior to today’s operation. With 2 males
charged with the weapons and drug offences and remanded in custody.
On Thursday the day started with officers on high visibility foot patrols in Harold Hill, visiting
local shops and talking to residents. The deployments that took place were part of the wider
Clear Hold Build initiative which is a unified approach that aims to make our communities a
safer place to work and live.

A Roadshow stall was also set up by London Borough of Havering who were engaging with local residents and the local ward officers assisted by also offering crime prevention advice and handouts which included personal alarms, anti-spiking bottle stoppers and faraday bags for car keys.

Safer Schools Officers who had been invited to deploy at a local secondary
school. Approximately 900 students left the site passing the drugs dog and they were
reported to have all behaved in a mature and sensible manner. This was completed in order
to send a clear message to students about the dangers of bringing in any contraband and the
consequences of bringing any prohibited items in to school. PC Hobday said: “It was a
great result that there were no positive indications by the drugs dog on any of the pupils. It is
good to be able to support education establishments in their efforts to ensure ongoing student
safety and wellbeing”.
The Drug Dogs were then deployed to Elm Park and Harold Wood Stations to deter those
who would use the rail network to travel to the area to commit offences. As a result a total of
28 Stop Searches were completed with 3 that were positive for drugs. Land Sheriffs and
Revenue officers supported the operation around the stations and this resulted in 1 person
being issued a penalty fare. The Romford Town Centre Team also completed patrols which
led to 3 further stop and searches around the Town Centre.

Multiple weapon Sweeps, looking for discarded knives and weapons in shrubbery/grass areas
were also conducted within the area of Farnham Road and Harold Wood by the Safer
Neighbourhood teams and Havering Council Officers. Members of the local ward panels and
Councillors were also in attendance. Local Mayor of Havering Councillor Stephanie Nunn also
joined officers at Elm Park.

A/PS Ahmed said: “The operation has been a positive experience for the Street Duties
officers. Meeting members of public, businesses and finding out about the problems they
face and how it effects them. The response from most people engaged with was very positive
and it was good for the new officers to see this level of support for them from the
community”
Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council said:
“These operations are another example of the great partnership working between the Council
and police in our communities across the borough. It gives extra reassurance to our residents
and businesses to see our officers and police out there, along with the drugs dogs who are
funded by the Council, to help boost our aims of keeping everyone safer. It is also the chance
to speak to residents and businesses directly about issues and concerns they have and to work
with them to resolve and reduce the risk of crime where they live.”
