Man arrested in Harold Hill after drugs found with a street value of over £100,000.
Proactive work by East Area officers sees another drugs farm closed.
Two weeks ago, Havering Police launched a new Home Office Initiative in Harold Hill entitled Clear, Hold, Build’. This week, as part of the Clear stage of this initiative, officers in Harold Hill arrested a 45 year old man after the execution of a drugs warrant.
On Monday, 11 December, officers from Heaton, Gooshays and Harold Wood Safer Neighbourhood Teams, alongside from East Area Street duties, executed the search warrant under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act at a residential property on Elliott Gardens in Harold Hill. At the address officers found that several of the rooms had been converted with high powered heat lamps and air ventilation equipment. 150 cannabis plants were recovered, that held a potential street value of over £100,000. Also present were representatives of the National Grid, who came to make safe the electrics within the property due to the dangerous nature and clear overloading of the electrical circuits.
A man aged 45, was arrested at the scene and taken to an east London police station. He has subsequently been charged with offences relating to the cultivation of cannabis.
Inspector Charlie Routley from Havering Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: “Today marks the official launch of our “Clear” phase under Clear Hold Build. The warrant executed today has seen my officers recover a large amount of Cannabis with a potential street value of over £100,000, which was no doubt destined for the streets of our local communities. We have also closed a potential fire hazard within a residential property which posed a genuine risk to those living nearby. There have been previous incidents where Cannabis grow houses like this have caught fire and caused a risk to life due to the irresponsible use of electrical appliances or tampering with electrical wiring. Today is a fantastic result in our efforts to
disrupt organised crime groups who are operating in Harold Hill under Clear Hold Build. We will
continue to work with the community to target those involved in drugs cultivation and supply across
Havering”.
