TfL aware of Emerson Park station lighting issues and apologise for making passengers feel unsafe.
Last week the Havering Daily reported on the lack of lighting at Emerson Park station. Passengers had contacted us reporting how unsafe they felt when using the platform due to the fact that there was no lighting whatsoever at the station. The station is quite remote from main roads and accessible by walking down a long slope in the dark. Female passengers in particular, had stated that they felt very vulnerable standing on the platform with no lighting and not being able to see who was approaching them.
The Havering Daily contacted Havering and Redbridge Assembly Member Keith Prince who was able to resolve the situation and by the end of the day on Friday, temporary lighting had been installed.
Rory O’Neill, General Manager for London Overground, told the Havering Daily: “We’re aware of the lighting issues at Emerson Park station and we are doing everything we can to identify and repair the problem as quickly as possible. As an interim measure we have installed temporary lighting to ensure customers can continue to use the station safely. Safety is always our top priority and we apologise if this issue has caused inconvenience or made customers feel unsafe when using the station.”
