Residents living in the Petersfield flats in Harold Hill, have been left with leaking stairs for more than three weeks.

The leak is believed to come from the ceiling on the communal stair way and has been leaking day and night, non stop.

A resident who lives in the Harold Hill flats spoke to the Havering Daily and described the impact it is having on those living there.

“I’m worried if the ceiling collapses about the impact it will have on my flat. This leak has been going on for three weeks now and it is only this week that they have actually taped off the area.

Previously, we were all walking slowly on the stairs in fears of slipping. My daughter actually fell, as the stairs are water logged.”

The resident who did not wish to be named, continued:

“We have had eight different workers attend to look at the ceiling and none of them have done anything. They have all looked, seen the water dripping down non stop and then left.

Not one out of the eight has managed to stop the leak or actually help us residents who use the stairs everyday.

They all arrive, stand on the landing and look at the water. Here we are three weeks on and the water is still coming down.”

A spokesperson for Havering Council told the Havering Daily:

“We are aware of the concerns of tenants and are working with our contractors Mears, to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

“In the meantime, we will keep tenants fully informed and ask them not to use that entrance area for now.”
