A Black Lives Matter activist involved in a protest that saw the toppling of Edward Colston’s statue has been jailed for fraud.

Xahra Saleem from Romford, is believed to have spent more than £30,000 raised through a GofundMe page, for herself.

The donations were received from hundreds of different contributors with the aim of going to local charities. Instead Saleem used the money for her rent, hair, beauty appointments and even a new iphone.

The 23 year old from Romford pleaded guilty at Bristol Crown Court and has been jailed for two and a half years.
