Havering Mayor and Romford MP launch the British Legion Poppy Appeal at the Mercury Mall.

On Friday 27 October the British Legion Poppy Appeal was officially launched at the Mercury Mall in Romford.Crowds gathered on the busy ground floor of the Romford shopping Centre to listen to emotive speeches by Havering Mayor Councillor Stephanie Nunn and Romford MP Andrew Rosindell.

The British Legion’s Standard was on display and Councillor Nunn and Mr Rosindell were joined by a group of supporting local councillors including former Havering Mayor Councillor Trevor McKeever, Councillor Christine Vickery, Councillor Barry Mugglestone, Councillor Jane Keane, standard bearers, and volunteers from the British Legion.

Deputy Centre Manager Natalie Bays told the Havering Daily:

“It is a pleasure to host such a worthy campaign year on year, where we continue to remember our fallen heroes. This is an event that is so close to our communities and customers’ hearts and we wish the legion all the best in their fundraising efforts this year”.

There will be a permanent stand on the ground floor of the Centre until 11th November 2003 where Poppies, Crosses badges can be purchased with one hundred percent of any money collected going to the British Legion’s most worthy cause.
