‘Gallows Corner is well known as one of the most dangerous sections of road in the South East’-Romford MP Calls for Government funding to upgrade flyover.
Andrew Rosindell MP has written to the Secretary of State for Transport, Mark Harper MP, calling for government funding to upgrade the Gallows Corner junction and flyover in Romford, Essex.
The current structure is over 50 years old and is one of the most dangerous sections of road in the South-East, with major congestion and safety concerns.
In his letter, Mr Rosindell said:
“It is well-known as one of the most dangerous sections of road in the South-East, with major congestion and safety concerns”.
“TfL have formerly cautioned that it will likely be necessary to close the existing model in 2025. This decision, without a replacement structure in the works, would be catastrophic for my constituents, and those in the neighbouring areas of Essex.”
Mr Rosindell has also highlighted the fact that TfL is currently bidding for £50 million of government funding to upgrade Gallows Corner. However, he has warned that this may not be enough to fully replace the structure, and has called for the government to allocate an area of the £1 billion of funding available to road schemes to the replacement of Gallows Corner.
In conclusion, Mr Rosindell said:
“I am imploring with you to allocate an area of the £1 billion of funding available to road schemes to the replacement of Gallows Corner. This would benefit Havering and Essex massively, both economically, and in regard to the safety of local people.”

Romford is not in Essex, it’s in London which is why Gallows Corner is a matter for TfL, Transport for London.
Havering is not Essex, and hasn’t been for over 50 years and especially since being part of the Greater London Authority (GLA). TFL need to definitely fund this roundabout where traffic lights is most needed.
The entire London Borough of Havering desperately needs investment in many ways to tackle the ongoing issues it encounters daily to make it safer and cleaner.
