‘The fatal stabbing of a 15 year old girl is horrendous-but nothing will change’,says mother who lost her son to knife crime.
“We have been talking and shouting about the horrors of knife crime for years now and no one listens to us.We are actually so very tired of begging and pleading with people to do something to stop these horrors. We urge people please stand up against these crimes before it is too late, and nothing is done.”
Bereaved mothers who have lost their child to knife crime have expressed their sadness after another innocent child lost their life on the streets of London.
Sue Hedges lost her son Ricky Hayden to knife crime in 2016 and Peguy Kato lost her son Champion Ganda on the streets of Newham in 2013. Boths mothers were horrified to learn about the fatal stabbing of a 15 year old girl on a bus in Croydon yesterday, 27 September.
“It is the norm now, we heard that this poor girl refused to engage with the teenage boy and he stabbed her on the bus. It is shocking for parents to know that their children are not even safe going to school. This is the society we live in,” says Sue.
“So many promises made to tackle knife crime and as reality can clearly show us, nothing and I repeat nothing has been done,” she added.
“I’m glad to see the community come together in Croydon and support this family. When I lost Champion, the council asked me to remove the flowers that had been laid at the spot where he was murdered. I had very little support from anyone. Nothing will give any comfort to her family, I have been there and every time another child is killed, that pain comes back.
“I have been working since I lost my son to try and stop knife crime on the streets of London, there are many local groups doing such a great job, but those that should be making the difference, are not. We are so tired of campaigning, of standing outside No 10, City Hall and still nothing is done,” Peguy added.
“It needs to be a widespread approach across all the communities to help tackle this nightmare. So much work needs to be done to stop youths from carrying knives. Parents across London now are even more scared that they were, sending their child to school. This poor girl was just going to school. The saddest part is that despite all the media coverage there has been and tv appearances, nothing will be done and in the next week, more of our youths will be injured or killed because of a knife,” said Sue.
“Do something now, stand up against these horrors please. Do not let knife crime come knocking on your door or it will be too late then,” finished Peguy.
