As the ULEZ cameras are rolled out across all London boroughs, Rainham residents were firstly quite shocked and secondly angry over the installation of a ULEZ camera pole slap bang in the middle of a pavement! The pole placed on Brookway was installed at the start of the road in the middle of the pavement obstructing anyone using wheelchairs or pushchairs walking along the road.

Angry residents contacted the Havering Daily who in turn contacted TfL to question why the camera pole had been placed in such a position. TfL were sent the photograph of the pole, agreeing it was in the wrong place and should not have been placed in that position. They also stated it would be removed as soon as possible.

On Tuesday morning, Rainham Councillor Sue Ospreay, Cabinet Member for Enforcement Councillor Barry Mugglestone and the Havering Daily journalist visited Brookway and found TfL contractors removing the pole.

TfL had agreed to move the pole quickly and kept to their word removing it first thing on Tuesday morning.

Councillor Ospreay and Councillor Mugglestone both object to this London wide expansion on the grounds of the huge impacts it will make on the lives of many Havering residents. Both Councillors were concerned about the impact it will have on people’s livelihoods and on those who rely on their car and cannot afford to change their vehicle.

Councillor Ospreay told Havering Daily followers that she had been contacted by many residents who are facing life changing decisions because of this expansion, including three pensioners who attend church everyday and will now not be able to as a result of the expansion.

The camera pole will now be replaced in the correct area.

I’m sorry, I fail to see how this is anything to crow about, the pole get removed and placed on the grass verge next to the pavement. Maybe your reporters could ask, why the council has allowed TFL to erect these stand alone cameras, all over Havering? Why publicly stating (including in your publication) that they oppose ULEZ and would not permit these cameras to be erected.
