Police Officers spot Upminster flat fire as investigation begins.
The cause of the fire on St Mary’s Lane is under investigation. The fire at the top floor flat above a restaurant is now out, but some crews remain at the scene.
Eight fire engines and 60 firefighters were to called to the area this morning by local police officers on patrol who spotted the fire at 8:40am.
Half of the first and second floors were destroyed by the fire.
The London Fire Brigade was called at 8:40 am and the fire was under control by 10:44am.
There were no reports of any injuries.
Some road closures still remain in place.
