East Area Police have always had the community at the heart of their policing.
Yesterday, 18 July, the Met Police launched another new policing plan and stated that as a service they are ‘putting communities back at the heart of policing.’
Across East Area that consists of the three London Boroughs, Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge, the communities have always been at the heart of local policing. We have some excellent police officers across all three boroughs, who have worked quietly, and dedicatedly with their communities for long periods of time.
There are many frontline officers whose work is vital and invaluable to our community. Their work is often extremely challenging and trauma based, experiencing scenes some us never want to witness in our lives. Yet they do this thankless job everyday. These officers’ bravery can never be questioned.
There are many Safer Neighbourhood Teams across the three boroughs who work hand in hand with our communities and not only know them well, but are trusted by their residents due to their incredible level of dedication everyday supporting members of the public.
There are also some outstanding officers such as Sergeant Wolfe, Sergeant Gaskin, Sergeant Tanner and Chief Inspector Jaz Kaur whose work has made a huge impact across our local community.
Sergeant Wolfe and Sergeant Gaskin are the two Romford Town Centre sergeants whose hardwork and dedication has seen the level of anti social behaviour drop across a challenging area.
Romford had a surge in anti social behaviour and an increase in stabbings. Sergeant Wolfe and Sergeant Gaskin were quick to stop further such behaviour and began their increase in patrols, intelligence led stop and search and a variety of other pro -active methods to put the breaks on violence in the local area.
Sergeant Tanner heads Havering Joint Task Force whose record of success is quite remarkable. Sergeant Tanner and his team are extremely proactive across Havering. They tackle car theft, anti social behaviour, and even violent crime when needed. It was just several weeks ago that a group of residents who were unsure of possible bogus callers, called the police and Sergeant Tanner and his team arrived on scene within five minutes and immediately resolved the situation. This team are an extremely valuable asset to our borough.
Chief Inspector Jaz Kaur heads Neighbourhood Policing in Redbridge and is also a dedicated violence against women and girls co-ordinator. Chief Inspector Kaur is a police officer who works extremely closely with her community and has opened the door for the police, that have recently been closed. She is an officer who communicates openly, clearly and in a manner that everyone can relate to. She is also an officer who genuinely cares for her community and that is clearly demonstrated in her work.
So as the Met continues with another new plan, here across East Area, the communities have always been at the heart of policing and our officers have never stopped working hand in hand with them.
The Borough Commander Chief Superintendent Stuart Bell, it is also worth noting, is a leader and police officer who not only appreciates the level of hard work his officers do daily, but also listens to their needs. Something that needs to be replicated London wide. The three new Neighbourhoods Superintendents have also made an excellent contribution to East Area and have worked from the start with their community.
Well done East Area officers for always having your communities at the heart of policing.
