Upminster Residents Association candidate for the upcoming by-election.
On Thursday 10 August a by-election is taking place in the Upminster ward following the death of Councillor Linda Hawthorn.
The Upminster Residents Association have shared the following – introducing their candidate.
The Upminster Residents Association were saddened to lose long term serving Councillor and friend, Linda Hawthorn, who had been a Councillor for just under 33 years. She was dedicated to Upminster and the borough of Havering having served on many committees and outside bodies. As a result of her passing, a By-Election has been called for the Upminster Ward to be held on the 10th August.
The Upminster Residents Association Executive held a selection process and interviews which has resulted in Jacqueline Williams being selected as the Upminster Residents Association Candidate.
Jacqueline has been a Upminster resident for 21 years and has always been a strong supporter of the Residents’ Associations values. Prior to being Chair, Jacqueline sat on the Executive Committee and was a joint Area Co-ordinator for Upminster Bulletin Deliveries. She has many transferrable skills which would make her an excellent councillor and wants to make a difference to the lives’ of our local residents.
Jacqueline has 40 years’ experience in the legal profession having worked for several large global law firms and has participated in charitable activities for Richard House and St Francis Hospices.
She is passionate about maintaining the Green Belt in and around Upminster and was a founder member of the Corbets Tey Regeneration Group (aiming to preserve the Conservation status of that area).
Jacqueline has a keen interest in music and dancing and she and her husband share a passion for classic cars and often go to museums and car shows.
If you are not registered to vote, contact the Council to register. You can vote in person, with a postal vote or a proxy vote.
Due to the new legislation you are now required to provide VOTER ID when going to vote. This can be a passport, driving licence, bus pass, freedom pass, identity card, biometric immigration document etc. Full details can be found on the government website.
