Public consultation launched on the Chippenham Road development.

Detailed plans will be unveiled, and a public consultation launched on the next phase of works to transform Harold Hill town centre today, Friday (14 July). Members of the community are being asked to provide their feedback on Phase Two of the Masterplan, which includes the delivery of around 150 high-quality homes between Chippenham Road and Kings Lynn Drive, adjacent to the Farnham and Hilldene shopping area.

The development at Chippenham Road forms a crucial part of the overall town centre regeneration. These plans have been brought forward by Wates, in joint partnership with Havering Council.

The new neighbourhood of homes for local people will be divided across five apartment complexes, and include a variety of housing types and tenures, including a range of affordable homes. The plans will help meet local demand for new modern and sustainable homes set within a family-friendly neighbourhood.   

Phase One of the plans, which includes the delivery of a new Family Welcome Centre and Health Centre on the site of the former Abercrombie Hostel, received planning permission in July 2022 with construction works commencing in summer 2023.

The regeneration of the town centre is taking place in a phased approach to maximise benefits to the local area and help minimise construction disruption.

Councillor Graham Williamson, Cabinet Lead for Development and Regeneration, said:

“The comments and support for phase one of the project were very encouraging. We value the feedback of local residents and businesses.

“I urge local people and businesses to have their say on the future vision for Chippenham Road and Harold Hill town centre. It is really important to gain this insight to help ensure the project is driven forward with the community and are aligned with everyone’s vision for the future.”

“We understand the urgent need for affordable housing in our local area, and our vision for Chippenham Road is aimed at tackling this shortage. Through our plans, we strive to offer a wide variety of well-crafted homes that meet the community’s needs while enhancing the vitality of Harold Hill Town Centre.

“Engagement with the community is one of the most important factors in bringing forward any successful programme of inclusive and place-changing regeneration, and we’re looking forward to once again be speaking to people across Harold Hill to receive their feedback.”

Members of the project team will be on hand to talk through the plans and answer questions from the community at the following drop-in events:

• Harold Hill Library, Tuesday 18 July (1pm to 4.30pm)
• Harold Hill Library, Thursday 20 July (2pm to 7pm)

The consultation opens today, Friday 14 July and will close Tuesday 8 August 2023.
