Pupils from Upminster school embark in a community litter pick and taught how to respect their environment.
Well done to pupils at Hall Mead School in Upminster, who yesterday 10 July, undertook a community litter pick across two Upminster areas. Not only did the pupils clear the area, but they were also taught how to respect their environment and not drop litter by their teachers.
Assistant Headteacher Martin Leslie organised yesterday’s event. He told the Havering Daily:
“As part of the Coronation events, we wanted to be involved in the ‘Big Help Out’ but sadly at the time we were in our exam period and as such we could not get involved then.
“However, we rearranged the event for yesterday as we were very keen to be part of this special Coronation event.”
Two sets of litter picks were organised for sixty pupils from year 7,8,9 and 10.
“We had two groups out litter picking. One group at Upminster Rec and the other, at Upminster Park, both groups consisted of thirty pupils.
“The pupils all had gloves and litter picks and had a great time clearing the local area. We teach them how important it is to look after your local area. We speak about being proud of where you live and how we all want to see it kept clean and litter free.
“One of our key drives has been how important it is for pupils to learn how to respect their local community. We ask them how they want to see their area and what it would look like if everyone dropped their rubbish all over the floor.”
The pupils from the school on Marlborough Gardens, were volunteers nominated by their teachers and spent two hours yesterday morning clearing the green spaces of any rubbish.
Locals across the area who saw the pupils and their teachers, were quick to praise them for the excellent work they had done.
Well done to both pupils and staff for this initiative. It is vital we all respect the area we live in and teachers at Hall Mead are doing a fantastic job teaching our youth just how important it is.
