‘Volunteering plays a pivotal role in our community-ULEZ could now have a devastating impact on the volunteer workforce’, Andrew Rosindell MP.
Andrew Rosindell, Member of Parliament for Romford, has expressed deep concern about the potential repercussions of the Ultra-Low Emission Zone on volunteers, particularly those who are pensioners or have impaired mobility. He highlights the significant financial burdens that these dedicated individuals may face as a result of the ULEZ, hindering their ability to fulfill their valuable volunteer commitments.
Volunteering plays a pivotal role in our community, benefiting people of all ages and abilities. It is disheartening to imagine the devastating impact the ULEZ could have on the volunteer workforce. Andrew Rosindell strongly believes that such consequences must be prevented from unfolding.
Throughout the last 12 months, Andrew Rosindell has consistently urged the Mayor of London to reconsider the implications of the ULEZ. He fervently implores the Mayor to either abandon this ill-thought-through initiative altogether or, at the very least, provide exemptions for pensioners and carers. It is crucial to protect and support these individuals who selflessly dedicate their time and energy to help others.
Andrew emphasises the need for a balanced approach that takes into account the unique circumstances and challenges faced by certain segments of the population. By excluding exemptions for pensioners and carers, the U.L.E.Z. risks unduly burdening those who rely on their cars to fulfill their volunteer and community-oriented commitments.
Andrew Rosindell therefore urges the Mayor of London to carefully reconsider the impact of the ULEZ on volunteers, if not on the entire general populace. He firmly believes that the interests and contributions of these individuals must be duly recognized and protected.
Please see below for Mr Rosindell’s statement.
“I am deeply concerned about the impact of the Ultra-Low Emission Zone on volunteers, particularly those who are pensioners or have impaired mobility. It is disheartening to think that these dedicated individuals, who rely on their cars to fulfil their volunteer commitments, will face significant financial burdens due to the ULEZ.
Volunteering plays a crucial role in our community, benefiting people of all ages and abilities. It is shocking to think of the devastating impact the ULEZ. will have on the volunteer workforce. We cannot allow such consequences to unfold!
That is why I have consistently called upon the Mayor of London to reconsider the implications of the ULEZ on volunteers. I implore him to abandon this ill thought through initiative altogether or, at the very least, provide exemptions for pensioners and carers. It is essential that we protect and support these individuals who selflessly give their time and energy to help others.”

*volunteers*
Andrew has learned something from HRA about hyper-selective shroud waving. This is his first mention of OAP volunteers. Is it because HRA have cornered the market in their worries about *carers*? Andrew has found a niche. Still it’s a vast improvement on his explanation that Brexit is a good thing, which was his last rant.
Funny how Andrew never complained about ULEZ when it was first proposed by thr previous mayor, a certain Boris Johnson
Andrew Rosindell and anyone representing the Conservatives within Havering do not care about the antisocial behaivour going on within the borough, and want to put all the attention to matters about ULEZ being a problem. Steven Julians comment earlier on here was spot on as Andrew Rosindell never complained once when ULEZ was first introduced by the previous Mayor of London, Boris Johnson. It’s just pathetic party politics. If it was Conservatives that wanted ULEZ to be enforced all throughout Greater London, people like Andrew Rosindell would be supporting the proposal every step of the way, so please people be smart and don’t be fooled by this rubbish.
What utter nonsense. I am an OAP and proud volunteer with Citizens Advice and with the local police. How do I get to where I need to be? I catch the bus. (Sometimes a nice policeman picks me up – in an unmarked car!) As Rosindell knows perfectly well almost 9 in 10 petrol cars are ULEZ compliant as are the vast majority of diesel vehicles. Surely the important thing is that air quality is improved by reducing pollution: pollution which has the greatest impact on the health of children and especially the health of children from financially worse-off circumstances.
