In a remarkable celebration of a century of community service and fellowship, the Rotary Club of Romford recently marked its 100th anniversary. Established in 1923, the club has been a pillar of support and dedication in the Romford community, embodying the Rotary International motto of “Service Above Self.” Members, guests, and representatives from neighbouring Rotary clubs came together to honor this momentous occasion, creating an unforgettable evening of festivities and camaraderie.

The centenary celebration, held at a beautiful venue in Gants Hill, was a true testament to the club’s enduring impact. The event was graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including members from neighbouring Rotary clubs, who shared in the joy of this significant milestone. From the moment the doors opened, the atmosphere buzzed with anticipation and excitement.

The evening included a sumptuous meal, expertly prepared to satisfy the taste buds of the diverse group of attendees. The meal itself served as a symbolic representation of the club’s commitment to nourishing the community, both physically and emotionally. The spirit of togetherness and unity was palpable as old friends reconnected and new connections were forged.

Norman Ellenby, Assistant District Governor, officiated the event, where he bestowed Indian Silk shawls upon Brian Evans and Susan Wolstenholme, esteemed Rotary members, as a traditional Indian gesture of recognition and reverence. Additionally, the ceremony included the official transfer of the presidency from Ron Curtis to Dianne Thomson.

Before dinner, the audience was treated to an array of mesmerizing performances. Classical piano renditions evoked a sense of timeless elegance, transporting the guests to a bygone era. The graceful melodies were followed by the energetic and vibrant rhythms of Bollywood dancing, showcasing the multicultural fabric of the community. The final act of the evening was a captivating piano jazz performance that infused the air with an aura of sophistication and jubilation.

Dr. Amarendra Vasireddy, a dedicated member of the Rotary Club of Romford who played a pivotal role in hosting the event, shared his thoughts on this momentous occasion:
