Susan Hall, the front runner vying to be the Conservative Party’s nominee for the London mayoralty has criticised Sadiq Khan, saying he is ‘doesn’t seem to care’ about the concerns of Havering residents.

Susan, who is seen as the grassroots Conservative pick to take on Mr Khan next May, said that if she was elected mayor, outer London boroughs including Havering and Redbridge, would no longer be overlooked.

Susan has pledged to scrap Sadiq Khan’s controversial ULEZ expansion, which will include Havering, on day one of being elected.

“ The ULEZ expansion is nothing more than a burdensome tax and if I’m elected it will go on day one. Many Havering residents are understandably worried about the huge financial impact the expansion will have on them, but Khan doesn’t seem to care”, she said.

She has also pledged to shake up the Metropolitan Police by establishing a specialist unit to ‘hunt down and lock up’ burglars, muggers and thieves. She has committed to invest £200 million as part of a major crime  crackdown.

“Crime in London is totally out of control, but Khan seems more interested in flogging his latest book, than he does getting a grip on it. I will implement root and branch reform of the police so that criminals fear them once again”.

She has said she will be a ‘house building mayor’, but says she does not favour ‘Khan’s preferred high-rise flats’, instead ‘family homes that people can be proud of’.

Susan, who currently sits as London-wide Assembly Member and is a serving councillor in Harrow, said:“ For too long now, Sadiq Khan has overlooked the needs and concerns of people living in outer London boroughs, including Havering.

“Just look at Khan’s so-called ‘Superloop’. It’s supposed to be a new bus network built to help people living in outer London cope with the expansion of ULEZ, but Havering isn’t even included.

“Towns including Romford, Hornchurch and Upminster are proud of their Essex roots, but do come under the Mayor’s remit. As a councillor from an outer London borough myself, I know only too well the importance of understanding the differences between inner and outer London issues”.

Christine Vickery, the Conservative councillor for Squirrels Heath who has endorsed Susan, said: “ Sadiq Khan is clearly scared of Susan. She routinely runs rings around him at City Hall and actually has the experience needed to beat him.

“That’s why she has my support, she is the candidate that can win. We need Susan to clean up London”.
